This is the first novel in a 6 book series. It has been super popular and I am a little late jumping on the band wagon but I was worried about how hyped this novel was. I have been pleasantly surprised lately with popular books - they have been as good as people said - so I figured it was time to give this a try.  Unfortunately this was a book where they hype took away more than it gave. The writing was great and I will continue the series but it was not as original (for me) as people have been saying. I found it to be very much like other novels I have read before (will list below) and it did stick to many established YA patterns. It was a fast and easy read and I do see it as a door opener of a novel for people who have yet to get into this sub genera.
