Summary
Before the Hungry's came and the world as they new it ended, things were different. But that was 20 years ago and this is now. The world has been split into 2 groups : people who are outside the fence and people who are inside the fence. Each of these groups has two subsections : The Outside has, he Hungry's (zombies created by a mutant form of Cordyceps fungi) and The Junkers (wild savage people who never moved into the safe zones). Inside the fence they have the people from Before (25 and older) and the people from After... but there might be a 5th group, a hidden group, a secret group... Melanie is part of this 5th group, and this makes her a very special little girl.  She lives in Hotel Echo 6, outside of London, which is in turn outside of Beacon. She lives there with the other special children, her professors, her favourite teacher Miss J, Dr Caldwell and we mustn't forget Sargent Parks... Parks who points the gun while they strap her into her chair, Parks who locks The Steel Door, Parks who sometimes takes a child away never to be seen again.

Review
I loved this book! I am so excited to watch the movie now, although from the trailers and can already tell one is going to be much different from the other.
I read this in two days, total binge reading because I just couldn't put it down. I had to know what was going to happen next. I loved the writing style, it was simple and easy to read but still had read depth. The plot flowed smoothly, there are a few holes in the information but they are small, constant action that was much less repetitive than I was expecting. The characters were well developed and likeable for the most part at one point or another, very dynamic between one person and the next.
I won't say anything about details because it will spoil too much of the story, but the ending is sublime! Anyone who likes zombies, horror, science fiction, post apocalypse should read this! It was nominated for 4 or 5 awards around the world and is an international best seller, as far as I am concerned the hype is well deserved! Give it a try!
